Before the print run
A QR printing checklist you can actually use.
A good-looking QR is only useful if people can scan it. Check the final artwork, its destination and a real printed sample before ordering a batch.
Create a print-ready QROpen the link while signed out. Check the exact page or file and avoid temporary or expiring download URLs.
Leave at least four empty modules on every side. A module is one small square in the QR grid. Put borders, text and artwork outside that margin.
Choose dark modules on a plain light background. Check the final paper and ink, not just the design on your screen.
Test at the actual print size and likely scanning distance. A dense code, reflective surface or curved label can need more space. There is no universal minimum that works in every situation.
Keep the corner markers clear. Adding a logo or decorative shapes can reduce scanning reliability; test the complete exported design.
Use SVG for scalable artwork when your printer accepts it. For PNG, choose enough pixels for the intended print size and avoid enlarging a small image. Check that PDF export and page scaling preserve the design.
Print one sample on the intended material. Test multiple phones, normal lighting and mobile data. A successful software decode is useful but does not replace this test.
Keep the destination available. For editable QR codes, maintain the service and subscription they depend on, and retest after changing destinations.

Static and editable codes need different checks
A static code keeps its encoded content and does not rely on a LlamaQR redirect. If that content is a URL, the website still needs to stay online at that address. An editable code relies on a managed redirect so its destination can change. Choose before printing: an existing static code cannot be converted into an editable one.

- Do not crop the quiet zone when placing the QR in artwork.
- Avoid folds, seams, glare and curved surfaces where possible.
- Place a short instruction beside the code and a readable alternative URL where practical.
- Ask for a proof and scan it before approving the full run.
